Who are you?
Hello, my name is Jiri Skarka in my May I will be 25 years old, I came here as first Erasmus student from Faculty of Physical Culture, Uversity Palacký Olomouc (Czech Republic). Actually it is my third and probably last Erasmus stage, because I have studied in Slovenia and Portugal as well. Honestly I love to be outside and spends time doing some activity in nature and during that meeting new people, sharing an ideas and having good time J
What do you do in Montenegro?
I have chosen Montenegro for many reason, but the most attractive was the unknown beautiful nature. As I mentioned above I am here over Erasmus network studying program so my main point is to study here, because I would like to implement my studying experience from foreign country to my final theses and to my future job as well.
What are your impressions after one week here?
Overall, my first impression since I crossed the borders, were inconsistent. When I saw the people here besides that Montenegrins are probably one of the heights nation in the world, I had feelings that they are absolutely unfriendly and angry according to their faces…How wrong I was…:D When I started to speak with someone, it completely change my opinion. All of them who I met so far are helpful and friendly, so my feelings after one week here is absolutely satisfied and I feel comfortable and safe.
Where do you live?
Before I came to Montenegro, I applied for dormitories located in Podgorica so with help of my foreign coordinator I got it, and it is really cheap and good equipped. Unluckily I discover that my Faculty of sport is located in Niksic, so I decided to find accommodation there. Moreover I came with my sports equipment such like bike and skies and it wasn’t allowed to have it with me at dorms. Ones more I have to say how helpful people in Montenegro are, so when I was looking for accommodation one local guy helped me to find a really nice flat, where I can stay until end of my Erasmus. In addition Niksic is small and beautiful city so everything is reachable on foot.
What do you do in free time?
My free time depends of the season within year. During winter I am spending as many time as possible in ski resorts, where I am teaching skiing and snowboarding too. Besides that I also train my body for some races through year, especially for triathlon. The summer offers me opportunity spends time on rivers so in Czech I am working for Rafting company as a guide. However I’m trying to push myself through new experiences so I am open for any adventure activity. 😉
Do you have any friends here?
From the beginning I been lookig for someone who can help me with social life here, so I tried to contact a few people over social media groups and I was really lucky, because I met local guys with same passion like me. The guys is doing really good job here. They offering to tourists the surrounding nature beauty over active exploring such like kayaking, skitouring, rafting, hiking, biking, climbing etc. Also I met my class mates and they are really friendly so I hope we will have good times together.
Would you advise young people to come to visit our country? And if yes, why?
The Montenegro is quite new country, where many young people never been, but they just heard about it. It was the same for me, but I don’t want to be a person who just simply agree with opinion of someone else, I want to create my own. My answer is definitely YES, yes you should have to visit Montenegro if you are nature-lover! Even when you are NOT nature lover the culture have absolutely something to offer you.
What would be your advice for young people that lives here?
First, it seems to me, that people here don’t appreciate the nature too much. The mainly reason is the rubbish almost everywhere, especially at surrounding of the cities. I am quite disappointed of that when we can see how many organisation are trying to reduce plastics producing and here you get packed everything in it. I would like to be example for others that you can go shopping with your own bag, so then is not necessary use the plastic one. But it’s not just the problem here its global, so my wish and advice too is to all people will reduce the plastic consumption and respect the Mother Nature more. Last but not least is for students to encourage them to study abroad. From my point of view is one of the best investment to yourself and spends one or two semester in foreign country. I can only say that would be different for sure! 🙂
What is the most important thing for humans?
Oh, what a hard question in the end… According to me is doing what you love, what makes you happy, even when you are probably won’t be a money millionaire. You will get much more than money the satisfaction which you gain over your dreams is priceless. I know its sound like a cliché, but if it would be so easy, everybody will do it, but it’s NOT, nevertheless everybody CAN! Long time ago I discover the best thing on the world, its SSD…. simply smile dude 😉
